Abstract

This paper presents a study of the global commodity exchange market and identifies trends and direction of development of this institution in the world. It was found that the commodity exchanges were subject to significant changes resulting from the development of the economy and the needs of market participants, which in turn led to the creation of global electronic trading platforms. However, this institution has always been a place of the information on prices and on agricultural commodities market generation. First of all it enables price risk management. Despite a significant development of stock markets in financial instruments the nominal share of the stock exchange operators in trading agricultural commodities futures is growing. / Synopsis. Instytucja ta podlegała znacznym przemianom wynikającym z rozwoju gospodarki i potrzeb uczestników rynku, co w konsekwencji doprowadziło do stworzenia globalnych elektronicznych platform handlowych.
