Systèmes d’information de marché et pouvoir de négociation des petits producteurs

Abstract

La question de l’impact de l’information sur les prix des transactions réalisées bord-champs en Afrique subsaharienne est au coeur de la relation qui lie les producteurs aux intermédiaires itinérants. Nous proposons une formalisation de la relation de marchandage qui lie petits producteurs et intermédiaires et nous étudions dans quelle mesure la diffusion d’une information sur les prix de marché est en mesure d’affecter cette relation. Nous nous intéressons en particulier aux conditions théoriques qui garantissent un impact positif des Systèmes d’Information de Marché (SIM) sur les termes de l’accord et l’efficience du marché. Nous testons ensuite empiriquement les prédictions du modèle théorique à l’aide de données originales collectées au Nord du Ghana. Nos résultats montrent un impact significatif du SIM sur les utilisateurs : en 2009 ils ont vendu en moyenne leur production 10 % plus chère pour le maïs et 7 % pour l’arachide.
