Abstract

Educational policies increasingly emphasise innovation and organisational change of educational institutions which are considered necessary to better align education and lifelong learning with the requirements of the knowledge society. Nowadays, higher education in Europe is undergoing extensive changes. It should play a strong role in raising the level of knowledge, skills and competences within the knowledge-based society and economy. Therefore, the paper presents the evolution of the Romanian higher education sector related to the Bologna Process and also a comparative analysis of the structure of higher education in Europe. In the end of the paper are presented some conclusions and recommendations for the further development of the higher education in Romania so that it might fully benefit of the new educational opportunities.
