This article discusses three basic problems: 1. the nature and use of concept of the market in the social sciences; 2. the centrality of the concept of internal market, as formulated by Marx and a certain Marxist tradition for explaining the genesis and the dynamics of capitalism; and 3. the essential features of the process of constitution of the capitalist internal market in Brazil.
