Abstract

There are very few genuine research papers written with such devotion and scholarship as the one appearing in JKAU: Islamic Economics (Vol. 1, 1409 (1989)) on the Role of Booty in the Economy during the time of the Prophet (Peace of Allah be upon him). The author, Professor Yasin Mazhar Siddiqi, estimates the total value of spoils of war accruing to Muslims during the first decade and proves that, contrary to the claim of a large number of eminent orientalists, this could not be treated as an incentive to Jihad expeditions. In order to prove the point the author also tries to calculate per head sustenance expenditure, total population of Muslims during the first decade of Islam, and probable expenses incurred on expeditions. --
