Abstract

The paper attempts to explain the reasons for the perceived decline in the quality of research in Islamic economics, especially those published in the Arabic language. The paper focuses, in particular, on the co-authorship of research papers as an important solution to improve the quality of research in Islamic economics, considering it as an interdisciplinary field which requires specialized knowledge in more than one field. For comparison, the paper reviews the global trend in co-authorship, especially in the field of economics, and its impact on the quality of research. The paper then, touches on the major issues that arise with co-authorship in research and suggests a set of criteria to recognize the contribution of authors in joint research, with the aim to encourage more researchers to engage in co-authorship research in Islamic economics. In conclusion, the paper proposes several recommendations to improve the quality of research in Islamic economics.
