La question des conséquences socio-démographiques des crises économiques et politiques africaines

Abstract

Cette note brève présente un résumé d’études antérieures concernant les impacts inattendus des crises économiques et politiques sur les paramètres socio-démographiques et sanitaires. Ces études sont présentées en détail dans un document de travail de la FERDI, qui comprend aussi une bibliographie sur le sujet. [Garenne 2016] Les pays d’Afrique sub-saharienne ont en effet connu de nombreuses crises économiques et politiques depuis les indépendances, c'est-à-dire depuis approximativement un demi-siècle. Parmi les 48 pays indépendants (hors territoires sous contrôle d’autres nations), la plupart ont connu une crise politique plus ou moins intense, 25 pays ont connu une crise politique majeure (coup d’État, révolution), 26 pays ont connu une guerre civile ou internationale, et 27 pays ont connu une récession économique d’au moins dix ans. Ces crises économiques et politiques sont le plus souvent liées, car les crises politiques sévères engendrent souvent une récession économique, et les longues récessions économiques conduisent souvent à un changement politique brutal (coup d’État, révolution, ou guerre civile).
