The Value of Knowledge in Contemporary Society

Abstract

This article focuses on the role of knowledge in economic development. If a country has the ability to take advantage of the knowledge process, to make effective use of accumulated knowledge, then its economy will be successful. Differences between wealthy and poor or less rich countries are increasingly not in the degree of endowment and use of classical production factors, but in the production, access and use of knowledge. Knowledge is a resource that is not consumed, but rather is always available again for other uses. It, therefore, "multiplies". This implies that, first of all, production of knowledge is an irreversible process, a bridge between the past and the future.
