Abstract

El presente documento tiene por objeto revisar la información estadística en materia de seguridad y justicia penal en América Latina y el Caribe. De esta forma, contribuye al cumplimiento del Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) 16, a saber, “promover sociedades pacíficas e inclusivas para el desarrollo sostenible, facilitar el acceso a la justicia para todos y construir a todos los niveles instituciones eficaces e inclusivas que rindan cuentas”. Su uso facilitará la creación de registros confiables, técnicos, precisos, independientes, pertinentes, oportunos y comparables, que se ajusten a las normas internacionales. De acuerdo con Naciones Unidas, esta información mejorará la transparencia, el acceso a la información y los datos empíricos para diseñar, supervisar y evaluar políticas y programas que prevengan el delito y fortalezcan el Estado de derecho y la justicia penal.
