Abstract

Abstract: This paper uses regional and industrial disaggregated data to assess the importance of sources and disturbances on industrial output fluctuation across Spanish regions. The aims of the study are three. First, identify the sources of industrial output fluctuations across Spanish regions. Second, compute how much of the total variance of industry innovations is explained by country shocks rather than by industry-specific shocks. Finally, analyse the degree of asymmetry of industry and country shocks. The results point to the fact that the sources of cyclical fluctuations in Spanish industry are conditioned by the location of industries. However, shocks affect more industries in the same sector than to those of the same region. Neither industrial nor territorial shocks confer a significant degree of symmetry to regional cycles of Spanish economy.
