Abstract

In times of tight budgets, the public funding of theaters is a constant subject of cutback discussions. Against this background, it makes sense to apply the method of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The findings open the possibility for intra- and inter-organizational dialogs that are suitable for enriching artistic freedom. This paper considers aspects for the dynamic efficiency analysis of public three-part theaters and shows how to specify them for practical applications. To achieve a reliable benchmarking, standard approaches of DEA are combined in a specialized model. Here, the restrictions are determined on the basis of empirical data.
