Abstract

During the second part of the past century tourism has become one of the most important and developing sectors in the world economy. The data is based on publications of WTO tourism for the period 2000-2020: 2020 Vision (WTO (1998). Tourism: 2020 Vision). In 1980 the global average annual growth of tourism regarding the incoming tourists amounts 5 percent, but it felt down to 4.3 percent in 1990. However for the next two decades the WTO provides an annual growth of about 4,4 percent. Regarding international tourism revenues – a comparison in real terms is much more difficult – even in full speed can’t be detected. In all regions a positive growth is registered. The most important fact is that there are not many economic sectors which can sustain in comparison to tourism in terms of growth.
