Influence of Immigration Parameter for Understanding Growth of Computer Virus in SIR Model

Abstract

A simple continuous model is used to understand virus attacks on computers through Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE). The persistence of computer virus is a great threat to the computer user community. In the light of this, researchers have taken an increasing amount of interest on modeling virus propagation in order to understand its behavior. An epidemic modeling technique, popularly known as Susceptible-Infected-Removed (SIR) model, is used to formulate the infection as a system of ODEs. Thus, an attempt is made to analyze the problem and to predict the behavior of the infection at equilibrium state. At the equilibrium position, the status of the state of infection is studied to visualize whether the behavior is an exponential one or a damped harmonic oscillator one or any other type. The period of oscillation plays a role in the behavior of infection. The impact of a free parameter on the behavior of overall epidemic is studied.
