Nuevas estimaciones de distribución del ingreso en Colombia entre 1938 y 1988. Metodología de estimación y principales resultados

Abstract

El artículo presenta diversos indicadores de distribución del ingreso para Colombia entre 1938 y 1988. Al presente, la información disponible para esos anos se limita a seis observaciones: 1938, 1951, 1964, 1971, 1978 y 1988 (Londono, 1995). El aporte central del artículo consiste en ampliar dicha información mediante la elaboración de estadísticas de periodicidad anual para todo el periodo. En el texto se detallan los procedimientos seguidos en la estimación y se presentan los resultados. Las series estimadas se incluyen en el apéndice estadístico. The paper presents a new set of statistics on income inequality in Colombia between 1938 and 1988. Until now, information has only been available for six years: 1938, 1951, 1964, 1971, 1978, and 1988 (Londono, 1995). However, this paper expands upon these statistics by estimating annual data for income distribution by sectors —urban and rural— and categories of income earners. Estimation procedures are described in-depth in the text, and the main results are included in the statistical appendix.
