Abstract

Since the 2000s, the ?return? of itorero in Rwanda has marked the renovation of an education program inspired by a warrior tradition which dates back to (pre) colonial kingdoms. The government has deftly selected and reinvented the elements used in the (re) construction of citizens won over to the ideals of the Rwandan Patriotic Front. This dynamic was launched through two courses of action. Thanks to the media coverage of the 2004 African Cup of Nations, the first one consisted in showing the image of a reconciled nation which was able to exert its influence on the world stage. Mutatis mutandis, the second one corresponded to the creation of a monolithic organization with a pyramidal structure which was meant to play a major role in Rwanda?s reconstruction policies.
