Abstract

The present study analyzes the impacts of the refugee situation on tourism industry in Lower Saxony. With the consideration of the possible consequences of the influx of refugees on tourism, a component of refugee migration, which has hitherto hardly been explored in science, is investigated. A survey of the opportunities and risks of the refugee situation with regard to employment opportunities, destinations and budgetary situations in tourist communities is conducted among actors at different levels of tourism. As a result, opportunities for the labor market as well as the ability to act in municipalities can be assessed. With this contribution, a first step to explore the complex effects of refugee migration on the tourism industry is provided.
