Racionalidad económica de las estrategias tecnológicas del sector arrocero

Abstract

Uruguay es el país con mayor tradición exportadora de arroz en toda América Latina y, en términos relativos, el que exporta una mayor proporción de su producción en todo el mundo. Con un consumo per cápita en torno de los 11 o 12 kilos por año, el mercado interno de arroz en Uruguay ha representado poco más de 5% de la producción nacional. En algunos años, el volumen exportado llegó a superar incluso el 95% de la producción. Hasta el presente, el sector arrocero nacional ha tenido una posición definida, contraria al uso de variedades comerciales GM. Los resultados de este trabajo demostraron que esta estrategia comercial tiene un fundamento económico racional que se manifestó en una mejora del bienestar, no solo para el sector sino para toda la economía.
