Composición de la economía de la región Suroccidente de Colombia

Abstract

Conformada por los departamentos de Valle del Cauca, Cauca, Narino y Putumayo, la región Suroccidente de Colombia concentra la sexta parte de la población colombiana y un poco menos de la séptima parte del PIB nacional. El Valle del Cauca es líder en la mayor parte de las actividades económicas de la región y aporta alrededor de las tres cuartas partes de su PIB. La minería tiene mayor presencia en el Putumayo y la silvicultura en Cauca y Narino. La composición económica del PIB presentó cambios significativos durante las últimas seis décadas. En efecto ganó mayor espacio el sector terciario por el crecimiento de los servicios, tanto en la administración pública como en la especialización de las cadenas productivas de la industria regional, desde las cuales se trasladaron servicios no estratégicos desarrollados en su interior hacia empresas especializadas en los mismos. Este hecho, engrosó la participación del sector terciario en el PIB, aunque la actividad industrial continuó siendo un renglón importante en la actividad económica de la región.
