Portrait du Québec pour le domaine des mathématiques

Abstract

This report is a factual portrait of the situation of students in Quebec with regard to mathematics. It presents tables that will fuel reflection on STEM in Quebec. Two databases were used to conduct this project on the portrait of Quebec in mathematics. On the one hand, data from OECD international tests related to mathematics and numeracy; in particular the TIMSS and PISA tests. On the other hand, data from the Bureau de la Coopération Interuniversitaire (BCI) in order to be able to comment on a possible shortage of workers in Quebec in the field of mathematics. The report on the mathematical portrait of Quebec is presented in three parts: a first part mainly devoted to data from the OECD databases on primary and secondary students, a second part focusing on the use of data from the BCI on the characteristics of students in the field of mathematics, and, finally, a third part which tends to explore the shortage in the field of mathematics once put in context with fields related to STEM. Ce rapport est un portrait factuel de la situation des e?tudiants et des e?le?ves du Que?bec par rapport aux mathe?matiques. Il pre?sente des tableaux qui alimenteront la re?flexion autour des STEM au Que?bec. Deux bases de donne?es ont e?te? exploite?es pour conduire ce projet sur le portrait du Que?bec en mathe?matiques. D’une part, les donne?es issues des tests internationaux de l’OCDE en lien avec les mathe?matiques et la nume?ratie; en particulier les tests de TIMSS et de PISA. D’autre part, les donne?es du Bureau de la Coope?ration Interuniversitaire (BCI) afin de pouvoir se prononcer sur une e?ventuelle pe?nurie au Que?bec en termes de rele?ve dans le domaine des mathe?matiques. Le rapport sur le portrait mathe?matique du Que?bec se pre?sente en trois parties : une 1re partie principalement consacre?e aux donne?es issues des bases de donne?es de l’OCDE concernant les e?le?ves du primaire et du secondaire, une seconde partie misant sur l’exploitation des donne?es du BCI avec le souci de circonscrire certains e?le?ments d’interrogation sur les caracte?ristiques des e?tudiants dans le domaine des mathe?matiques, et, enfin, une troisie?me partie qui tend d’explorer l’arborescence de la pe?nurie dans le domaine des mathe?matiques une fois mise en contexte avec les domaines en lien avec les STIM.
