Efectos de los mecanismos de financiación en el acceso a la educación superior en Colombia

Abstract

En este trabajo examinamos algunos de los factores que determinan el acceso a la educación superior en Colombia, en un contexto de incrementos generalizados de la población en edad escolar en todos sus niveles, unas fuentes de recursos insuficientes y unas amplías brechas de desigualdad del ingreso y de oportunidades; y analizamos los efectos de los mecanismos de financiación a la demanda implementados. Consideramos un modelo que incluye tanto variables económicas, de obtención de préstamo, subsidio o beca; como variables demográficas, sociales, familiares e institucionales, a partir de los datos que proporciona la encuesta de calidad de vida. Mediante una aproximación econométrica de tipo logit, se realizan estimaciones considerando los individuos que se encuentran realizando estudios superiores, diferenciando por estudios técnicos, tecnológicos y universitarios; y teniendo en cuenta aquellos que han accedido pero deben estudiar y trabajar al mismo tiempo. Se evidencia que el nivel educativo de la madre, los ingresos y la obtención de crédito, así como la región territorial, son factores determinantes en el acceso a la educación superior en Colombia. Se concluye que el crédito educativo es la principal modalidad de financiación al presentar efectos importantes, aunque aún insuficientes para la demanda de educación superior.
