Abstract

This document analyzes the intensity and characteristics of urban labor mobility in Argentina during the nineties by studying transitions Fromm occupations in the Greater Buenos Aires labor market. Initially, the paper describes differences in the degree of mobility among different groups of workers. Then, it explores to what extent rising unemployment, shifts in the occupational structure and the new labor regulations have brought about alterations in labor mobility intensity during that period. Therefore, changes in exit rates from jobs between the first and the second half of the decade are also studied. Precisely, major modifications in labor institutions were introduced in and after 1995, while open unemployment peaked after 1994.
