Abstract

In spite of the media attraction that the elaboration of the different urban life quality’s indices enjoys, the sure thing is that a systematic and rigorous construction of those indices can provide a useful tool, of chief importance, for the municipal manager. So it is important, not only to identify those relevant variables at the time of explaining life quality of a determined environment —comparing to others— but also measuring it according to an appropriate scale and weigh it up tactfully. The study exposes a methodology to elaborate these indices, based on the Principal Components Analyses and illustrates its application with the elaboration of environmental quality index of the different neighborhoods of Cali, a town of Colombia.
