Technischer Fortschritt bei Klopstock & Co: elektronischer Handel mit antiquarischen Büchern und seine Folgen

Abstract

Der Handel mit antiquarischen Büchern hat durch das Internet - zumindest aus Kundensicht - eine Umwälzung erfahren wie kaum eine andere Branche. In einer ersten empirischen Untersuchung der Preiswirkungen eines digitalen Marktplatzes für antiquarische Bücher konnte nicht festgestellt werden, dass Antiquare, die ganz oder überwiegend über das Internet verkaufen, günstiger anbieten und damit Druck auf die Preise ausüben. Dies stimmt nicht mit Ergebnissen neuerer Studien über die Wirkungen des E-Commerce in anderen Märkten überein. Überraschend ist auch, dass die Preisstreuung bei antiquarischen Büchern nach wie vor hoch ist; dieser Befund steht allerdings in Einklang mit Beobachtungen des E-Commerce für andere Märkte.
