Convergencia y migraciones interdepartamentales en Colombia: 1950 - 1983

Abstract

“La macroeconomía ha redescubierto dos viejas tradiciones: la economía regional y la geografía económica. Mediante la comparación del comportamiento económico a nivel regional se puede extraer información relevante acerca de la efectividad de las políticas sectoriales, los determinantes del crecimiento económico y las tendencias de largo plazo de la economía. Más aún, a diferencia de los estudios de corte transversal que utilizan a los países como unidad de análisis, en las comparaciones interregionales se reduce la importancia de factores jurídicos, institucionales, culturales y religiosos. Estos factores son frecuentemente ignorados en las comparaciones entre países. El presente trabajo analiza sistemáticamente los datos departamentales colombianos con el propósito de responder tres interrogantes. Primero, ¿ha habido a lo largo de la posguerra una tendencia hacia la convergencia en los ingresos por habitante entre los diferentes departamentos del país?; segundo, ¿cuáles han sido los determinantes fundamentales de la migración interdepartamental en el país? y tercero, ¿qué papel han jugado los flujos migratorios desde el punto de vista de la convergencia entre departamentos? El presente trabajo está dividido en seis secciones. Las siguientes dos secciones están dedicadas al análisis de la convergencia interdepartamental en Colombia. En la sección 2, se presenta el marco analítico y se discuten los conceptos de convergencia. La 3 aplica esta metodología a los datos colombianos. Las dos siguientes secciones se concentran en los flujos migratorios ínter-departamentales. En la sección 4 se muestran las principales tendencias a partir de los censos de población. La sección 5 relaciona los resultados sobre la convergencia con las migraciones. La sección 6 concluye el trabajo con una breve síntesis de los principales resultados.”
