Abstract

A large survey conducted in a large number of rural household in 2001 from more than twenty communities all across Canada previously identified as « lagging » or « leading » allow us to measure a set of indicators of social capital according the path of development of those communities. We found a positive link between the economic dynamism and the presence of a high social capital. This research was targeted to the finding of the specific role of those intangibles factors of development. We expect to build foundations for a new approach of local development taking in account those intangibles factors. The work is also directed to the design public policies appropriate for the « Community Capacity Building » process, a new major trend in rural local development. Classification JEL : J52, O15, O17.
