Abstract

In the face of a scenario marked by environmental degradation caused by the disorderly use of natural resources, wind energy emerges as a way to pursue development while simultaneously preserving natural resources, without compromising the well-being of current and future generations. Thus, this article aims to conduct an analysis of the evolution and generation of wind energy on a global and national scale, as well as to present the configuration of their electrical matrix, identifying the major wind energy producers. The data indicate that in recent decades, the generation of electrical energy from wind sources has shown vigorous and dynamic growth worldwide. China, in turn, leads the global wind generation scene both onshore and offshore, with Brazil ranking sixth in global production in 2022. Brazil is considered a reference globally due to renewable sources having composed its electrical matrix for many years, with wind energy strongly established in the Northeast of the country a region favored by strong and persistent winds annually. Therefore, it is evident that the wind energy sector has the potential to contribute to the energy transition, reduce socio-environmental disturbances caused by the greenhouse effect, and enhance energy security through reliance on clean energy.
