Spieleentwicklung und Serious Games in Österreich

Abstract

Die Spieleentwicklung (Game Development) ist in Österreich eine kleine, aber hoch dynamische Branche. Von 2018 bis 2024 wuchs die Zahl der aktiven Spieleentwicklungsunternehmen von 87 auf 149 Unternehmen an. Ein besonderes Segment innerhalb der Branche sind die Anbieter von Serious Games – Spiele, deren Ziel über den reinen Unterhaltungswert hinausgeht. Im Unterschied zur bloßen Gamification geht es darum, nicht nur durch einzelne spielerische Elemente einer Software, sondern durch das Spiel insgesamt ein Lernziel, eine Bewusstseinsschärfung oder eine Motivation zur Verhaltensänderung zu bewirken. Serious Games stellen ein Bindeglied zwischen der Spieleentwicklungsbranche einerseits und dem Bildungsbereich, der Wissenschaft und der Organisationsentwicklung in Unternehmen und Institutionen dar.
