Numerical study of optical properties in core–shell nanoparticle for photothermal and thermoplasmonic heating effects

Abstract

Presently, Mie theory is employed to calculate the optical characteristics and temperature change is examined under light irradiation by solving the heat equation analytically. It is observed that the LSPR peak has emerged between the 403 nm–630 nm wavelength and spectra are found in the visible regime. The maximum and optimized absorption cross-section is observed at ∼8.17E−15 m2 at 561 nm and ∼9.55E−15 m2 at 630 nm wavelengths of 20 nm core-radii and 10 nm shell thickness of both Ag@Fe2O3 and Au@Fe2O3 core-shell configuration. The results are reported at the different wavelengths of maximum heat (2157 nW and 2700 nW) and temperature (6.07°C and 7.12°C) of Ag and Au radii with 10-nm Fe2O3 shell thickness at 559-nm and 625-nm wavelengths. The present findings indicate that these core-shell nanoparticles could serve as effective heat sources in various applications, including photothermal cancer therapy, bio-sensing, photonics, hyperthermia, and thermal nano-heaters.
