The main objective of this work is to analyze the evolution that has followed the credit co-operatives (credit unions) with the intention of satisfying the changing demand of products and financial services on the part of their partners and users. Coming from a predominantly agricultural approach it has moved to a "universal bank"-model. Therefore the sector has developed different strategies, like the cooperation by means of specific models of concentration; the reconstruction and rationalization of its management processes; and the territorial expansion. In this work we start with a presentation of the situation of the sector at the present time, next we centre the analysis in its strategic evolution, with special attention to its policy of territorial expansion and the elements that form the present axes of their Strategic Management.
