    La literatura económica que se ha desarrollado bajo el campo de la Economía Industrial ha hecho acopio de diferentes teorías para proporcionar, desde diversos ángulos, respuestas que interpreten la naturaleza y la conducta de la empresa. El propósito de este trabajo es doble. En primer lugar, interpretar y justificar la aparición de un nuevo tipo de empresa cuya naturaleza corporativa y competitiva se explica a partir de la integración de dos instituciones financieras que en décadas pasadas han estado claramente delimitadas, nos referimos a la institución bancaria y aseguradora. En segundo lugar, desvelar empíricamente si la bancassurance constituye un enfoque competitivo diferente en el modo de realizar la actividad aseguradora. Traditionally, Industrial Economics has developed different theories to aproximate, following diverse approaches, organization and perfomance of the firm. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, we attempt to characterise and justify the existence of a new firm, whose corporate and competitive structures has been the result of integrated two financial institutions: a bank and an insurance company. Second, we analyse empirically whether the bancassurance represents new copetitive insurance business
