Abstract

The objective of this paper is to analyze the strategic behaviour of the Spanish agri-food firms. An imperfect competition model with a group of dominant firms in an oligopolistic market, and a second group consisting of a competitive fringe have been used. Moreover, firms decide simultaneously the total output, how much to sell in the domestic and international market, and the investment on product innovative activity. This model has been estimated using information from a National Survey: “Encuesta de Estrategias Empresariales” in 1998. Firstly, agri-food firm behaviour results are shown and, finally, main differences and similarities between Spanish agri-food firms and the rest of firms are remarked.
