Foreign Direct Investment In Malaysia: Opportunities and Lessons for India

Abstract

The paper presents the Malaysian foreign investment climate, policies, incentives and infrastructure that played an important role in attracting sizeable foreign direct investment given the size of the country. The main investment incentives presented refer to manufacturers, high technology companies, tourism industry and the Multimedia Super Corridor. The reasons for Malaysia's in attracting foreign direct investment have been analyzed. The paper also identifies the areas for bilateral investment flows given the comparative and competitive advantage of India and Malaysia. The paper concludes with some lessons for India in attracting FDI, in the light of the Malaysian experience.
