Abstract

A new organic-inorganic hybrids [NH3-(CH2)3-COOH]2 MCl4( M= Hg, Cd) were synthesized; the single crystals were obtained by diffusion voice at room temperature. The structures were solved from single-crystal X-ray diffraction at room temperature. The first compound [NH3-(CH2)3-COOH]2HgCl4 (1) crystallizes in the monoclinic system with C2/c space group, a=29.2762(2) ?, b=11.0408(1) ?, c=11.3944(1) ?, β=112.532(2)˚ and Z=8. The second compound [NH3-(CH2)3-COOH]2CdCl4 (2) crystallizes in the monoclinic system with P21 space group, a= 7.409(1) ?, b= 7.490(1) ?, c= 15.298(2) ?, β = 100.084(2)˚ and Z=2. The both structures might be described two dimensional layered systems with two parallel anionic and cationic layers. Three dimensional network of hydrogen ? bonding assures the cohesion between these layers and stabilizes the crystal. In this work we present the comparison of both structures and we show the influence of the metal nature in the crystalline structure.
