Preis- und Durchschnittswertindizes im Außenhandel - Was lehrt uns der Vergleich?

Abstract

Die amtliche Statistik in Deutschland bietet seit vielen Jahren zwei Indikatoren der monatlichen Preisentwicklung an, nämlich Durchschnittswertindizes (PU-Indizes) auf der Basis von Durchschnittswerten (unit values) und (echte) Preisindizes (P-Indizes) der Aus- und Einfuhr in tiefer warenmäßiger Gliederung. In den meisten Ländern gibt es nur PU-Indizes, die als Nebenprodukt der Außenhandelsstatistik anfallen, nicht aber auch die erheblich aufwändigeren P-Indizes. Es stellt sich dann natürlich die Frage wie sich die typischen Unterschiede im Verlauf von PU- und P-Indizes erklären lassen, was man durch das Nebeneinander von zwei Maßen der Preisentwicklung gewinnt und ob dies den Aufwand rechtfertigt.
