It is commonly known that due to reasons which range on a wide spectrum; such as curiosity, religious purposes, healing of health problems; people have touristic movements till antiquity. The fact that such movements were done by specific group or approach to such movements as luxury consumption, at the beginning, changed in time and it climbed to front rank in the basic needs. The reasons of such change are increase in welfare, decrease in prices of transportation due to technological developments and vacation need of the people due to their serious work load. The sector’s contribution to the state economies became an important field of study following the development of the tourism movements. This study aims examination of the history of the Tourism Sector in Turkey and its effects on the economy. Effects on economy were examined by basing on its percentage in GNP, effect on balance of payments and employment. Due to reason that the tourism sector has an important place in the service sector, the relation between the tourism requirement in Turkey at 1990s and development of the service sector was tested by TAR Cointegration analysis.
