The increment and persistence of the unemployment in the last years in the occidental countries is one of the most analized problems related with the labour market. This study analyzes the relationship that exists between the unemployment rate and the vacancies rate along the period 1977-1996 in the Spanish economy: the Beveridge curve. The evidence allows to show the existence of a simultaneous increment of the vacancies and the unemployment. Then, I checking if this behavior there is been due to an increase of the structural unemployment and, more concretely, of the qualification level mismatch between vacancies and unemployment. The last part of the work expounds the possible effect that the active policies of employment (expenses in formation, fundamentally) could have in that appraisal of unemployment. So, according to these outputs could get some conclusions on the convenience of destining more economical resources to this type of policies.
