Abstract

Since the middle of the eighties, Argentina has opened the economy to trade, first unilaterally and then in the context of regional agreements. This paper studies the consequences of these policy changes on the trade structure of this country. We find evidence that the trade structure of Argentina has suffered a significant modification. In particular, imports and exports have been subject to a process of de-concentration. As a first approach, we investigate if tariff preferences and economies of scale can explain these changes.
