Abstract

Fonde sur les donnees de l'Enquete sur les depenses des menages et de l'Enquete sur les depenses des familles qui l'a precedee, le present document traite des revenus relatifs des Canadiens a l'age de la retraite et en age de travailler entre 1969 et 2006, en tenant compte a la fois du revenu explicite du menage et du revenu implicite resultant d'un logement occupe en propriete. Au cours de cette periode de 37 ans, le revenu explicite des menages a l'age de la retraite a augmente plus rapidement que celui des menages en age de travailler. Le revenu implicite associe a un logement occupe en propriete a augmente rapidement aussi durant cette periode, le taux de croissance etant le meme que celui du revenu explicite des menages a l'age de la retraite. En moyenne, cette source implicite de revenu a accru le revenu des menages a l'age de la retraite (70 ans et plus) de 16 %. Si l'on tient compte des deux formes de revenu, le rapport du revenu des menages a l'age de la retraite (70 ans et plus) au revenu des menages en age de travailler (40 a 49 ans) est passe de 45 % en 1969 a 59 % en 2006. Durant cette periode, les Canadiens ont investi dans des biens immobiliers qui leur ont procure un revenu supplementaire a la retraite.
