Abstract

La présente étude évalue l'effet des technologies de l'information et des communications (TIC) et de l'impartition à l'étranger sur la demande de travailleurs très qualifiés. Le creusement de l'écart salarial entre les travailleurs très qualifiés et ceux qui le sont peu a été l'une des caractéristiques déterminante de l'économie canadienne au cours des deux dernières décennies. Durant cette période, les dépenses consacrées aux technologies de l'information et des communications et à l'achat d'intrants intermédiaires à l'étranger ont augmenté spectaculairement. L'analyse de données sur 84 branches d'activité manufacturières canadiennes couvrant la période de 1981 à 1996 nous porte à conclure que les TIC ainsi que l'impartition à l'étranger jouent un rôle important dans la demande de compétences.
