Abstract

L’économie mondiale a retrouvé son calme après la bourrasque financière de l’année 1998. Les taux de change des pays émergents se sont stabilisés, même si des doutes persistent sur la solidité des deux monnaies qui ont tenu ferme : le peso argentin et le yuan chinois. L’année 1999 a vu le retour de la croissance dans plusieurs des pays industrialisés d’Asie, alors que l’Amérique latine reste plongée dans la récession. Les PECO traversent une phase transitoire de résorption des déséquilibres issus d’une croissance rapide tandis que la Russie connaît un certain rebond. Le ciseau de croissance attendu entre les Etats-Unis et l’Europe ne s’est pas encore produit au premier semestre 1999, les Etats-Unis ayant continué de jouir d’une croissance forte tandis que l’Europe connaissait un passage à vide (...).
