They can also take English courses on the Internet if they think it is necessary. iii. The impact of Internet on English teachers. On the one hand, the Internet provides English teachers with more conveniences in teaching; on the other hand, the Internet challenges teachers¡¯ notion on teaching, the role they play in teaching and teaching methods. Based on his own experiences, the author puts forward some measures that could be taken by English teachers in teaching. i. Reasons for using the Internet. These include experiential learning, greater interaction, authentic materials for study, individualization, and so on. ii. English teachers undertake new roles in English teaching. The teacher¡¯s new role includes planning, analyzing, organizing, coordinating and problem solving in a student-centered environment. iii. English teacher should look of the Internet as huge resources for English teaching. Find new and interesting articles for students is one example, and joining the news groups for teaching English is another. iv. English teachers can use the Internet as means of teaching. For example, English teachers can establish their own teaching website (free domain names are available on the Internet); English teachers also can set up E-mail lists or news groups used for communicating with the students, handing out materials used for the next class and collecting assignments, etc. English teachers should change their notion on teaching, catching the opportunity that most colleges and universities are setting up information campus to take advantages of the Internet.
