The Balance of Payments in Belgium and the IMF Approach

Abstract

La balance des paiements de l'Union Economique Belgo-Luxembourgeoise ne s'établit désormais plus en fonction de l'optique du financement compensatoire. Par conséquent, la séparation entre opérations monétaires et opérations non-monétaires n'apparaît plus de manière explicite dans la balance des paiements de l'UEBL. Celle-ci privilégie désormais la distinction entre opérations courantes et opérations en capital, conformément aux principes édictés dans le 5ème manuel du FMI. Cette étude présente à la fois les justifications méthodologiques de cette modification et les conséquences sur l'analyse descriptive de la balance des paiements.
