Abstract

Igennem en næsten 50 års periode deltog Jørgen Henrik Gelting aktivt i den økonomiske debat i Danmark. Som en af foregangsmændene i introduktionen af den keynesianske revolution i Danmark skete hans indblanding i debatten – såvel den rent fagøkonomiske som mere alment overfor den brede offentlighed – altid med den realøkonomiske udvikling for øje. En tilfredsstillende beskæftigelsessituation med en samtidig fornuftig betalingsbalanceudvikling var et meget væsentligt økonomisk politisk mål for Gelting. Teoretisk markerede han sig på mindst to fronter. Dels som den førte, der genopdagede og reformulerede det balancerede budgetteorem i 1941. Dels ved sin disputats Finansprocessen i det økonomiske kredsløb fra 1948, hvori han præsenterer en systematisk gennemgang af økonomisk politik og den keynesianske indkomstdannelsesproces.
