Brasil 1961-1964: Inflação, estagnação e ruptura

Abstract

Entre o final de janeiro de 1961 e 31 de março de 1964, o Brasil viveu um período de singular turbulência política, assistiu a única experiência parlamentarista da era republicana, teve três presidentes, cinco chefes de governo e seis ministros da Fazenda. A rotação no comando da política econômica contribuiu para a perda progressiva do controle sobre a inflação e outras variáveis macroeconômicas. Nesse contexto, a subdivisão do capítulo segue a seqüência de desenvolvimentos políticos que marcou o período: a breve tentativa de estabilização ortodoxa sob Quadros, as políticas econômicas do período parlamentarista, e a fase presidencialista do governo Goulart, marcada pela implementação tentativa do Plano Trienal. A última seção inclui uma discussão sobre as origens da desaceleração de 1963-1964 bem como uma avaliação mais ampla das políticas do período em questão.
