    Abstract

This paper investigates how participants involved in collaborative innovation manage to develop complex product systems (CoPS). Building on a case study focusing on the nEUROn program, it identifies the capabilities which have been deployed and coordinated by the various organizations involved in the project. It shows that developing the first European Unmanned Combat Air Vehicule (UCAV) demonstrator required designing an original organisational architecture rooted in the combination of innovative management practices and virtual R&D technologies which in turn facilitated collaboration among partners.
