Abstract

If governing is forecasting, can the impredictible be governed ? Moreover, with the psychological impact of a bursting crisis, the manager is hardly in a position to manage. Due to these two reasons, management crisis seems to be a perfect oxymoron and is rather like a mission impossible. The author demonstrates that this is only apparently true. First of all, because change, a new phenomenon in the history of man, is the very spring of economy. And with the resulting acceleration, post-modern management no longer consists in trying to plan in order to get the environment the way you want it to be, but rather to ceaselessly and assuredly negotiate with an uncertain environment. Crisis management is akin to the art of improvised speech for which sounding natural and spontaneous requires a long apprenticeship. This latter, like military maneuvers, needs simulation drills and experience feedbacks. The aim is to acquire the appropriate reflexes to compensate for the momentarily paralysis of the mental faculties in order to keep the crisis under control, and then be quickly in a position to think about what to do and lead the action.
