Turismo sostenible: su interpretación y alcance operativo

Abstract

La aplicación de los principios de la sostenibilidad al turismo es una referencia esencial en los procesos de desarrollo y promoción de los destinos potenciales y de reestructuración de los destinos actuales. Existe, sin embargo, una dicotomía entre la amplia difusión del concepto del turismo sostenible y las limitaciones de los progresos alcanzados. En este artículo se propone una discusión teórica para examinar las definiciones del turismo sostenible, a partir de diversas interpretaciones, posiciones y alcances, y analizar los aspectos relevantes de su operatividad, referidos a la integración del turismo masivo y sostenible, las implicancias del desarrollo sostenible, la politización y la participación social.
