Abstract

The 2006 – 2007 agricultural campaign has been characterized a good rainfall. As a result, cereal markets were sufficiently provided with cereals at lower prices. In December 2006, OPAM took advantage of the opportunity to reconstitute the national food security stocks. This led to price increases, which benefited producers. However, the price of rice remained high even though its production substantially increased in comparison with that of preceding years. In spite of this production increase, national production was insufficient to cover the country’ needs in rice.
