La sur-éducation en France : vers une dévalorisation des diplômes du supérieur ?

Abstract

En France, de nombreuses études ont mis en évidence la présence de jeunes employés suréduqués sur le marché du travail. En utilisant les enquêtes du Céreq, sur les sortants de l’enseignement supérieur en 1984 et 1996, nous analysons l’évolution des déterminants et de l’incidence de la suréducation. En privilégiant une modélisation endogène de la suréducation dans la détermination des salaires, nous tenons compte du biais de sélection induit par les diplômés sans emplois. Suivant nos résultats, le phénomène de suréducation est loin d’être marginal, la proportion de salariés déclassés double en 12 ans. Le lien « diplôme-accès à l’emploi » s’est renforcé pour les sortants de l’enseignement supérieur mais paradoxalement les probabilités d’accès aux postes élevés de la hiérarchie professionnelle se sont largement dégradées entre 1987 et 1999.
