Abstract

Abstract: Since more than 30 years, there has been an increase in german unemployment. Economic policy, in most cases, has reacted to this with only small changes in labour market institutions, the fundamental causes of the problems remain unsolved. This behaviour endangers the systems of social security and economic welfare. Latest labour market reforms try to solve the problems mainly by increasing the incentives to work and through better placement. This article looks at the main points of the reforms in the background of standard labour market theories and makes further suggestions to solve the fundamental causes of unemployment.
